Culture Building - The Peoples Champ
Coining Coworkers
ScreenBroidery was built on the willingness of team members to go outside their job description to help each other out. 'People Matter' is one of our four main values. To the team, this means that employees, customers, vendors, and our community are the people who are vital to our success. Since they are important, we work our butts off to make sure every interaction betters the people in our world.
As the team expanded, maintaining the support culture was important for happiness and growth. After brainstorming with the partners, we decided that a challenge coin to show appreciation would help maintain that value. The idea was simple, yet powerful. Anytime someone went out of their way to help you out, you go grab a coin from the pot and hand it to them. With the majority of employees being Ball State graduates, naturally, Ball Jars would hold the coins.
At the end of the month, a People Matters meeting would be held and the title of 'People's Champ' would be crowned. The crowning is accompanied by the best parking spot (reserved with a People's Champ sign) a crisp $100 bill and the People's Champ trophy.
The results have been astounding. The terms and phrases of 'coinzzzz,' 'coin$,' and Mario references have become a part of the daily talk throughout the office and on Slack.
How It Works Internally
Coining Customers, Partners, and Suppliers
With People Matter being such a key value in ScreenBroidery's company values - these coins must make it beyond the walls of the office. Anytime a customer, partner, or supplier does something that embodies that task - a cellophane-wrapped coin card with the meaning of the coin printed on it is given to the person.
Oftentimes, the deed is done outside of the office and the team is unable to hand one in-person to the good samaritan. So, the team member logs on to the internal swag shop, swag.screenbroidery.com, and checks a coin card out, writes a personal message (which gets translated to a handwritten greeting card), and sends it via mail.
